Ginkgo, my first cat — my little companion who’s turning 8 at the end of April — has been going through a really tough time lately.
About a month ago, he suddenly got sick. After rushing to the vet, they discovered he had struvite crystals (tiny bladder stones). Thankfully, it wasn’t too serious and could be treated with a special diet. By then i had already spent over 1K to help him but I was reassured and hopeful.
But then, on last Thursday, march 20th, everything changed. Ginkgo wasn’t himself. He didn’t touch his food all day — and knowing how much he loves to eat, I knew something was wrong. I took him back to the vet in a panic late in the evening.
I couldn’t bring him home until this Monday the 24th. It was such a long and worrying wait.
They still aren’t completely sure what’s going on. It could be a blockage in the ureter (the little tube between the kidneys and the bladder), which might mean surgery… or even needing to place a tube to help him pee. Or it could be a kidney infection — something called pyelonephritis.
The tests, hospital stay, medications… it all added up so fast. And I know this isn’t over yet — Ginkgo will need regular checkups to make sure everything stays under control. There’s always a risk of it coming back.
If you’re able to help, even just a little, it would truly mean the world to us.
Ginkgo and I are so incredibly grateful for your support.
