Help us rebuild a cabin-cruiser! | Aidez à Reconstruire un Cabin-Cruiser!
Hello everyone,
My partner and I share an incredible dream: to rebuild an old boat and then sail it around the world. This dream of the open sea and bringing a vessel back to life has been an integral part of his life for as long as I've known him, and now, it's a part of ours too. He's incredibly skilled with his hands and so dedicated, but let's be realistic, restoring a boat, especially one capable of circumnavigating the globe, costs a fortune. Far more than we could manage alone. That's why we're launching this appeal, hoping you can help us.
Imagine: a magnificent old cabin cruiser, brought back to life by our efforts, cutting through the waves on an epic journey across the oceans. It's not just about the boat; for us, it's about finally living this immense adventure we've always talked about, seeing the world in a way most people only dream of. This dream has been burning in him for years, and I'm so excited to help him – to help us – make it a reality.
Restoring an old boat like this is a colossal undertaking. We're talking about everything: repairing the hull (which is the body of the boat), overhauling the engine, fixing all the electrical systems, acquiring navigation equipment, ensuring the boat is super safe, and creating a living space on board. My partner has the skills, the dedication, and honestly, he'd put countless hours of work into it. But the cost of materials and all that specialized equipment? That's where we hit a snag.
To even begin this crazy adventure, we need to tackle the first major steps of the restoration. Any small contribution from you would go directly towards these initial and crucial parts. We have some cost estimates for this first phase:
Finding the Right Boat
We need a solid old cabin cruiser to start with. This will likely cost between CHF 5,000 and 15,000.
Initial Hull and Structural Repairs
This involves making sure the boat is sound, fixing major leaks, and getting it ready for serious work. Think fiberglass, resin, special sealants – probably CHF 8,000 to 20,000.
Engine and Mechanical Check
The heart of the boat needs to run reliably. This means checking the engine, making basic repairs, or even finding a replacement if necessary, along with fuel system checks. This could cost between CHF 10,000 and 25,000.
Basic Safety Equipment and Tools
We need essential tools to work on the boat safely, as well as basic safety gear. Approximately CHF 2,000 to 5,000.
Thank you so much for even considering supporting this crazy dream of ours. It means the world to us.
