"When Gaza dies, so will humanity." Colombian President Gustavo Petro said in a speech during The Hague Group. As Gaza enters stage 5 starvation, we cannot stand idly by while innocent children are bombed, starved, and decimated, while the adults that care for them suffer the same fate, powerless to stop it.
For over 21 months, Gaza has been under a brutal siege. More than 377,000 Palestinians have already lost their lives, including over 18,000 children. These are not abstract numbers. They represent countless individual tragedies: families destroyed by bombs, children buried under rubble, lives reduced to mere statistics. Over 127,000 people have been severely injured, bearing lifelong physical and emotional scars. Worse still, the people of Gaza face the slow torment of starvation and disease as scarce resources dwindle.
Despite global appeals, more than 6,000 trucks filled with life-saving essentials like baby formula, fuel, and food remain stuck at the Rafah border, unable to reach Gaza due to political obstruction.
Sailing to Break the Siege
That’s why we are joining one of the most audacious humanitarian missions of our time. Teaming up with the Freedom Flotilla and the Sumud Convoy, delegations from over 40 countries are ready to challenge the blockade. Together, we aim to break the siege and deliver essential aid directly to Gaza.
Our Colombian delegation is made up of six human rights defenders from all the country who embody courage and conviction. This time, we are not just witnessing history, we are risking our safety to end the horrific blocade that is starving Gaza. For Palestine, for human rights and international humanitarian law.
