Je m'appelle Tharuka (34 ans) et je vous écris du Sri Lanka pour vous adresser une humble requête. Depuis huit ans, ma princesse Madhuwanthi (30 ans) et moi partageons le rêve de nous marier, mais la pauvreté nous en empêche.

Issus d'une famille d'agriculteurs modestes, nous avons été durement touchés par la crise économique qui frappe le pays. Je travaille sans relâche comme livreur, mais mon salaire suffit à peine à couvrir nos besoins quotidiens, ne nous laissant rien pour épargner en vue d'un mariage ou d'un logement.

L'attente de près de dix ans est un fardeau lourd à porter. Nous ne souhaitons pas une cérémonie fastueuse ; nous voulons simplement commencer notre vie ensemble, mari et femme.

My name is Tharuka (34), and I am writing to you from Sri Lanka with a humble request. For 8 years, my princess Madhuwanthi (30) and I have shared a dream of getting married, but poverty has stood in our way.

Coming from humble farming backgrounds, our families have been hit hard by the country's economic crisis. I work tirelessly as a delivery rider, but my income barely covers our daily survival, leaving nothing to save for a wedding or a home.

​The mental stress of waiting nearly a decade is heavy. We don't wish for a lavish celebration; we simply want to start our life together as husband and wife.
