FAQ

Dear Sir / Madam,

I live in the Kandy area of central Sri Lanka. My parents are English. I am 77 years old. My father came to Sri Lanka as a planter and worked as a tea estate superintendent. We lived in the house that was given to us by the Upland Estate where my father worked. Unfortunately, when I was 18, my father died from a cancer. The kind-hearted officials of the company that owned the estate allowed my mother and me to continue living there. After my father’s death, I ran the Clothing Shop at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya as the job, but later the university transferred the management of it to someone else.

Later, I married a Sri Lankan (a Sinhalese person) and continued to live in the same house where we lived. He worked as a manager in a government paddy mill. We spent a calm & quiet life, but our lives were not very prosperous. My husband passed away in 2015, and I have two sons. The eldest, son, his wife and his two school-going daughters live with me in my house today. The eldest son is a Telecom Rigging Technician. The second son lives in the Colombo area with his wife and daughter. He has no opportunity to look after us.

But there is one thing that is troubling us.

That's, the house is very now dilapidated. Currently, as an asset, we only have this house where we live. Its roof is very ruined and decayed, and it is in danger of collapsing at any moment. It is almost impossible to stay at home when it rains.

Although my two sons take care of me as much as possible, they do not have the money to repair my house and roof. They are married and have children.

In this situation, buying a new house is a dream for us. But if the roof of the currently dilapidated house is repaired, we can live in it for another considerable time. However, it is estimated that it will require approximately LKR 2,000,000 (USD 6,700). Finding that amount is also a dream according to our current situation. Also, we do not have any other assets to convert into cash.

Living in such a stressful environment, I heard about your organization. It brought me great consolation.

So, I & my son decided to seek the support of your organization to achieve my goal.

Accordingly, we urgently request the generous support of donors to find the amount of US$ 6,700 (CHF 5370) needed to repair the roof of my house.

Thanks & Regards,

Princy Blyth
