Dear friends, kind hearts, and compassionate supporters,
My name is Rohan Gunarathne, and I am from Sri Lanka. I am writing this message with a humble heart, asking for your understanding, empathy, and support during one of the hardest times of my life.
A few years ago, I was working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), trying to build a stable future. Unfortunately, I was involved in a serious accident that changed my life forever. The injuries I suffered left me partially handicapped, and since then, even the simplest daily tasks have become difficult. My health condition has limited my ability to work, and my income stopped completely. Returning to Sri Lanka, I had to start again from nothing, facing pain, uncertainty, and financial hardship.
However, despite all these challenges, I refused to give up. I always believed that knowledge and education can change lives — not only my own but also the lives of young people who have very little access to learning resources. That belief became my motivation to keep going.
Even with my disability, I began teaching IT (Information Technology) and computer skills to poor students, many of whom cannot afford private classes or even a proper computer. I conduct small lessons, both online and in person when I am able. My goal is to help these young students gain valuable digital knowledge that can lead to better opportunities and a brighter future. Teaching gives me purpose and helps me heal emotionally, knowing that I can still contribute to society and make a positive difference.
But now, I am once again facing a difficult challenge. My personal computer — my only tool for teaching — is completely damaged and beyond repair. Without a PC, I cannot continue my lessons, create materials, or communicate with my students effectively. A new computer that can support my IT classes and projects would cost around USD 600, which is a huge amount for me in my current situation.
In addition to that, I am struggling with basic living expenses. Due to my limited mobility, I cannot do heavy work or travel far for employment. My medical condition requires regular treatment and medication. For the next three months, I estimate that I need about USD 300 to cover food, medicine, and essential daily needs. This small support would give me stability, health, and peace of mind — allowing me to focus on teaching again.
So, in total, I am humbly requesting USD 900 — USD 600 for a new computer and USD 300 for basic survival and medical needs over the next three months.
I understand that many people around the world are facing their own struggles, and asking for help is never easy. But I have learned that kindness still exists, and sometimes even a small act of generosity can change a life. I am not asking for charity — I am asking for a chance to continue doing what I love: educating poor students free of charge and using my knowledge to uplift others.
Through my small IT classes, I have already helped several students gain confidence in using technology. Some have gone on to find small jobs or scholarships because of what they learned. Seeing their smiles and success makes every moment of pain worthwhile. It reminds me that my life, even with limitations, still has a purpose.
Unfortunately, without a working computer, I am now unable to continue my teaching or online communication. My old computer was the center of all my work — from preparing lessons and slides to guiding students in coding and digital literacy. Replacing it is my top priority so I can restart my free educational sessions.
I also hope to use the new PC to continue my community IT awareness projects, where I guide students on safe internet use, cybercrime prevention, and responsible technology practices. I truly believe in building a new generation of responsible, tech-savvy youth in Sri Lanka — and I want to keep doing that for as long as I can.
I am deeply grateful to anyone who takes the time to read my story. Even a small contribution or sharing this message can make a real difference. Every bit of support brings me closer to recovering my strength, rebuilding my teaching space, and continuing my service to those who depend on me.
Your kindness will help me not only survive but also regain my dignity and continue contributing to my community.
If you choose to help, please know that your donation will go directly toward:
USD 600 – for purchasing a new computer (including monitor, keyboard, and basic accessories) so I can restart my IT lessons.
USD 300 – for three months of food, medication, and essential daily needs while I recover and stabilize my situation.
This total amount of USD 900 will help me get through the next three months and restart my educational activities with renewed hope and energy.
I have always believed that we are placed on this earth not just to live for ourselves, but to help others grow. That is why, even when I was struggling, I continued to teach children who could not pay for lessons. Many of them now consider me a mentor and a friend. I do not want to disappoint them or stop their progress.
Please, if you can, help me continue teaching, healing, and rebuilding my life. Your generosity will not only support me but also indirectly help dozens of underprivileged children who depend on my guidance.
May your kindness be rewarded with peace, happiness, and good health.
With sincere gratitude,
Rohan Gunarathne
