When the flood flooded the crops that had been there for ten days, I thought - I need to ask you for help.

My name is Tharindu Indika Ariyawansha. I am 28 years old. I live in the Polonnaruwa area, which is one of the more difficult regions in Sri Lanka, together with my ill mother. I own about 8 acres of farmland, and my main livelihood is agriculture. I also work in a small job at a private institution.

   Although I started my paddy cultivation very successfully in the last season, due to the heavy rains at the end of the quarter and the severe flooding that lasted for 4 days, more than 80% of my entire harvest was completely destroyed.The crop had been cultivated for 105 days, and it was planned to harvest it in another 7 days.  I purchased the seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, and other necessities for cultivation on credit, I am now in an extremely helpless situation because I am unable to repay those debts. The people who lent me the money have even come to my house and scolded my sick mother. At this moment, I have no one to help or guide me in any way, which is why I created this (pot). Below is the complete information regarding the loan amount and the items.

    In this season, I can obtain paddy seeds again and start cultivation only after settling the loan from the previous season.

The amount of debt I have already paid using the remaining harvested crop and the disaster relief assistance provided by the Government of Sri Lanka for natural disasters and  crop damage                -

Outstanding loan amount = 1,566.22 CHF

The outstanding loan amount for this season and the minimum amount required for land preparation again.      = 857 CHF

The total amount needed to pay off all debts and start farming again - 2423.22 CHF
