FUNDRAISING TO COMPLETE MY STUDIES

My name is Joseph Odero, I am 60 years old from Kibera slums in Kenya. I was born and brought up in a very poor family. I was always a top student when I was at school; there was a time I appeared top 20 nationally, but my education was intermittent because I was always sent home for school fees. I sat Form four and passed well. I joined Advanced Level but could not join university because I only learnt a two year course for only one year because of school fees. I was doing child labour to get fees, but could not be enough.

This stigma has affected me so much, because the people I was defeating, pass by me with big cars because they pursued their education and are now working. I have never got formal employment, but been doing odd jobs to cater for the basics for my family.

I had done some certificate and diploma courses after a grim struggle, but still these cannot remove the stigma of not completing university education.

Because of this, I have reluctantly applied and joined Open University of Kenya, that offers synchnous online studies. I do a Bsc in Cybersecurity and digital Forensics, a course that I have a passion for. The fee paid per year is Kshs 79,000 ($ 630 US) per year. The problem is that, still I may not complete because I cannot afford this fee.

This is why I am appealing to well-wishers to help me raise funds to cater for fees, to allow me meet my life ambition. People do not necessarily go to school for work, but also for knowledge. I promise to use the knowledge I will acquire to create job opportunities to the poor.
