For centuries, the hands of Kandyan craftsmen have shaped Sri Lanka’s identity through their beautiful arts, from wood carving, goldsmithy, and silversmithy to brass carvings and Dumbara weaving, a UNESCO-recognised intangible living heritage. But today, these traditions are fading away.

Rising raw-material costs, a struggling economy, and limited access to markets have made it almost impossible for artisans to survive. Many skilled craftsmen have been forced to give up their art and take on daily wage jobs. Their children, seeing no future in this work, are turning away from their heritage.

If this continues, the priceless knowledge passed down for generations will be lost forever.

Through this project, we hope to build an online platform that connects Kandyan craftsmen directly with global markets, giving them fair prices and a sustainable livelihood. By helping them sell their products to the world, we can give new life to this ancient art and hope to the hands that keep it alive.
