A Childhood Dream That Time Did Not Allow to Come True
A Childhood Dream That Time Did Not Allow to Come True
Since she was a little girl, my mother dreamed of traveling the world. In the pages of small explorer books, she imagined distant lands, adventures in unknown places, cultures waiting to be discovered. She clung to those stories with the hope that one day, she would be the one walking through those mysterious lands. But life, relentless, had another fate prepared for her.
She was born in a difficult era, under a dictatorship, where children's dreams were buried under the weight of survival. Instead of exploring the world, she had to work from a young age in the fields and factories to bring money home. At 18, with more dreams than certainties, she left her country hoping for a better future in France. But the path she found was far from being one of adventure and freedom. Years of relentless work, constant sacrifices, nights of loneliness, and endless days struggling for an uncertain future awaited her.
She got married and returned to her homeland, where she had two children and where her greatest nightmare began. For years, her life was marked by fear and pain. Each day was a silent battle, each night an endless torment. But she never stopped being strong. At 57, with the help of my brother and me, she gathered the courage to break free and start anew.
With only a minimal amount of money after an expensive and exhausting divorce, she emigrated once again. In a foreign country and at an advanced age, she faced uncertainty, loneliness, and hardship. But she did not give up. She worked tirelessly, supported herself, supported us. Always putting others first. Always leaving her dreams behind. Yet, she never lost hope. Sometimes, when I saw her looking at the horizon, I knew that deep in her heart, that childhood longing to see the world still lived on.
Today, at 73 years old, I want to give her something that life denied her: the opportunity to see the world with her own eyes. I have already taken her to a few countries, and in June, I want to surprise her with two more destinations. But I know that with your help, we could go even further.
Time does not wait, and neither does her health. Each passing day is one less opportunity. I want her to see everything she once dreamed of when she was that little girl reading about explorers. I want her to feel the freedom she never had. To experience the thrill of stepping into an unknown place, breathing in different air, marveling at landscapes she could only imagine. To relive the excitement she felt when flipping through those books.
I imagine her smile when she sees a vibrant city for the first time, her eyes lighting up as she witnesses a sunrise in a distant land, her tears of joy as she steps onto new soil—a land she can finally call her own, even if only for a moment. Because this is not just a trip; it is the reward for a lifetime of sacrifices. It is the chance to give back a small part of what fate took away from her.
If this story touches your heart, help me make it a reality. Every donation, no matter how small, will be another step toward her dream. A dream that time almost stole from her, but one that, together, we can still fulfill.
Will you help us give her a glimpse of the world, even if just a little?
If you have ever had a dream that destiny took away, if you have ever longed to see someone you love achieve the impossible, help me make this come true. Every donation, no matter how small, is an act of love, proof that happy endings still exist. Because after a lifetime of struggle, she deserves, at least once, to feel that the world also belongs to her. And perhaps, deep down, we all deserve to believe that dreams can still come true.
Because dreams have no age or expiration date. Sometimes, they just need a little help to become reality.
